The Manufactory Quarter is in a unique location. North Tallinn’s valuable urban space and outstanding architecture is within easy reach. This includes the Seaplane Harbour, Patarei Prison, Noblessner, Stroomi beach and Kultuurikatel, which in the future will be connected by the Insect Highway . The excellent location in Tallinn and the romantic history of the Second Industrial Revolution requires an ambitious approach. The Manufactory Quarter will develop into a complete environment, where living spaces are integrated with offices, restaurants, shops and services. It will become a vibrant quarter with a diverse business environment, whose history-inspired architecture will preserve its unique industrial character. The public space created will be multi-use and people-centred, with playgrounds, community gardens, parks and enjoyable free space.
An architectural competition
As a result of the unanimous decision of the jury of the architectural competition, the factory building and boiler house of the Manufactory (Manufaktuuri 5) will be designed by Kadarik Tüür Architects. New residential buildings and the public space (Manufactory 7 with the traffic scheme of the quarter) will be designed by Molumba.
